Wrist watches and celebrities, especially actors have always been inseparable. While some brands pay huge amounts of money to these famous personalities for becoming “Ambassador” of their products, others wear it out of sheer love and of course build quality. One of the stories associated with the latter is how Sylvester Stallone got hooked onto Panerai time pieces.

It is believed that this action hero got attracted to Panerai during his visit to Italy in 1995. There are numerous versions as to why he bought a Panerai while strolling along the streets of Florence. Some say it was love at first sight – he fell for its compelling design and fierce character. There are others who swear that Sylvester Stallone was actually looking out for a wrist timepiece that would complement the character played by him in his next action thriller “Daylight” which had innumerable water logged scenes and action sequence.

Either way it turned Panerai’s fortunes forever. From an obscure brand building watches for the Italian Army and Navy, it soon captured the hearts of American actors and renowned personalities. And the reason was Sylvester Stallone’s continuous patronage. Incidentally, the Panerai Luminor Marina Submersible Chronometer that he wore in “Daylight” helped the company re-establish itself, and soon it became one of the most sought after brands in the luxury segment.

That the watch complemented Sylvester’s character was purely coincidental.

The actor had so much respect for this watch that he asked Panerai to create a limited edition version ( 200 pieces ) called the Daylight Slytech aka Panerai Slytech. The watch featured Stallone’s signature engraved on the back of the case. So, what did he do with these watches? Well, legend says that it was distributed amongst the cast and crew.

A decade and a half later the macho actor continued to portray his love for this Florentine brand. The Expendables ( 2010 ) shows him wearing a Luminor 1950 Regatta. His co-star and another action hero, Jason Statham also sports a similar wrist accessory. It is said that Jason Statham too is a Panerai aficionado. Sylvester Stallone watch in Expendables 3 reflects his unmatched love for this Italian brand.

Even today, his loyalty for Panerai remains undisputed.
